Hello, artenauta! Today we are going to talk about a very interesting technique with which you can achieve very attractive and striking results: pointillism. For this, we bring you some pointillist paintings that will surprise you with their realism.
What is pointillism?
- Pointillism is a pictorial technique that consists of representing the luminous vibration through the use of tiny dots. When viewed from a distance, these dots make up well-defined landscapes and figures.
- When using this technique, pure colors are always used, without mixing, since it is the viewer’s own brain that mixes them when observing the image.
- It originated in France in 1884, where it was first used by Georges Pierre Seurat, who was later followed by other artists such as Vlaho Bukovac or Henri-Edmon Cross.
- Pointillism is considered within the post-impressionist movement.
- It starts from the representation of the image of nature, as did impressionism, but differs from this pictorial movement in the conception of volumes and shapes. Pointillism conceives forms within a geometry of pure masses, resulting in works that are examples of clarity and order.
