Hello, Artenauta! In our passage through the different stages of art history, today we are going to focus on a period that has provided us with some of the best artists in history.
In today’s post, we are going to tell you about some famous baroque painters.
First of all, we would like to tell you, in broad strokes:
Defining characteristics of the baroque movement
- One of the most outstanding aspects is the exceptional use of light, which will help to create volume and form.
Tenebrism arises, which consists of applying a strong contrast between the lights and shadows of the work. - The contours are blurred, with color and light gaining prominence in front of the drawing.
- More complex compositions appear, with disordered figures, leaving aside the horizontality and symmetry that characterized Renaissance painting.
- Naturalism prevails, representing the human being, not as an ideal of beauty, but within reality.
