Hello, Artenauta! Today we are going to tell you about a French painter known for the great influence he had on the impressionist movement: Édouard Manet.
- He was born in Paris (France), on January 23, 1832, into a well-to-do family.
- At the age of sixteen he tried to enter the French Naval Academy, where he was rejected twice.
- After the refusal of the Naval Academy, he became interested in art, becoming a student of Thomas Couture. At the age of five he left the workshop because he considered the teachings he was receiving to be outdated.
- He was a regular visitor to the Louvre Museum, where he studied and copied the works of the great masters such as Rembrandt, Titian and Goya.
- He traveled around Europe with the intention of getting in touch with the great artists of the time.
- Later, on another trip, he would become acquainted with Spanish baroque painting, which would profoundly influence his later work.
- After a period in which the painter’s work tended towards tenebrism, the artist developed a daring technique, bright and light, which aroused the interest of younger artists, including the impressionist movement.
- Died in Paris (France) on April 30, 1883.
